How Can I Serve?
Community Ministry

Mt. Olive Lutheran Community Garden
Garden of giving sponsored by Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. Spring plots should be planted by may 15 and maintained throughout the summer. You may share your abundance with the community or with Lutheran World Relief. If you do not care to sustain your own plot, lend a helping hand to another's garden. Simply contact Vicar Jillian at (828) 324-6198 or mtolivevicar@embarqmail.com for more information.
Matthew 25
3rd Tuesday of April & October. One of the best ways to exhibit the love of Jesus is to spend time and listen to our homebound members' concerns. Relationships are stregthened when we love and support one another. Caring ministry through visitation, prayer, phone calls and cards to homebound members unable to attend worship services and activities. Visits are to be made at least three times during the six months, more are encouraged. Individual teams are rotated every six months.
- Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your master's joy (Matthew 25)
Mt. Olive Prayer Chain
Prayer chain volunteers are available to pray for healing and peace. Volunteers are provided with names of individuals needing prayer. If desired prayer requests will be kept confidential. If someone is interested in becoming part of the Prayer Chain, please contact Florence Barton (828) 327-2533 or the church office.
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you (Matthew 7)

Action Ministry

Tying and Tacking Girls
Mondays, 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., Fellowship Hall
We are quilters who meet weekly with the goal to provide warmth for the needy children of God wherever they are- locally, nationally or globally.
With God's help we provided 384 quilts to members, community organizations and global organizations collectively this past year. This group is sponsored by the Women of the ELCA but membership is not required. Anyone is welcomed to participate. If you love to quilt or want to learn how, come join us.
Prayer Shawls
We invite crochet and knitting enthusiasts to join in the prayer shawl project. We work individually but occasionally have joint knitting sessions. You can work at home or join together in small groups to knit together. These shawls are given to folks in crisis and to new members. Last year 19 prayer shawls were presented. The shawls are collected and blessed by Pastor Dave before being gifted. Materials and instructions are located between the education building and the sanctuary.
Flower Ministry
Brighten the day of some of our shut-ins and others with creating small arrangements from donated altar flowers that have been designated to the ministry. If you have signed up for flowers, consider donating them to this ministry or assisting in preparing the arrangements on Sunday evenings after James 5:13 Worship.
