    Community Ministry

    Micah’s Cupboard

Inspired by the phrase “My Innocent Children Are Hungry” and Micah 6:8, this ministry assists in responding to the needs of local school children and their families during school breaks and vacations. We also help with other immediate needs identified by the church or school guidance counselors. Church members and friends can assist by providing non-perishable foods to Micah’s Cupboard. The group currently operates our of downstairs classrooms in the Education Building.

    Mt. Olive Ministry Foundation, Inc.

The purpose of the Ministry Foundation is to provide scholarships for students of Lutheran education institutions; provide gifts to any Lutheran agency; provide gifts to Mt. Olive for non-budgeted items; and provide gifts to Christian educational institutions. The foundation has two sources of funds.

    1. Income from an investment portfolio.
    2. Income from members of Mt. Olive.

As the “season” for donations nears, please consider the foundation in your giving plan. Every dollar is well spent. Perhaps you might wish to make a one-time donation. Or you might want to consider naming the Ministry Foundation as a beneficiary to your retirement plan, IRA or life insurance policy. Or perhaps there are other options you might explore with your attorney or financial advisor.

    Mt. Olive Prayer Chain

Prayer chain volunteers are available to pray for healing and peace. These volunteers are provided with names of individuals needing prayer and prayer requests are always confidential. If someone is interested in becoming part of the Prayer Chain, please contact Karen Birkedal (828)495-9372 or the church office.

    — Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you (Matthew 7)

    Outreach Team

Meets the first Sunday of each month at 3 p.m.

Community outreach includes service such as blood drives, support for the Hickory Soup Kitchen, collections for the Greater Hickory Cooperative Christian Ministry, the Sipe Home and their Houston Cottage, the Salvation Army Men’s Shelter, the CCM Heating Assistance Fund, and ELCA Disaster Response. Monthly projects may take a time commitment of a few minutes to a few hours based on the project. We welcome new members and new ideas.

    Hospitality

Volunteers are always welcomed to assist in planning, preparing and providing meals for fellowship dinners and other special events. If you have a love for cooking, planning events, decorating, set-up and clean-up or serving others, please share your gifts by joining us.
